after playing in a couple of notorious punk and rock outfits oliver greschke decided in 1998 to exchange his old guitar for a good sound card and to free himself from all the compromising that comes with being just one piece, however large it may be, in that puzzle called band or group. oliver greschke wanted to be one solid monolith, a weapon on his own and all by himself.
lured into a new kind of music, a new approach of making music, by the speed and raw energy of dark drum'n'bass tracks oliver greschke turned himself into magnum 38 (not to be taken seriously) and began to work on his own definition of breakbeat. after meeting marco haas, markus stolz and roland fiege (the founders of the shitkatapult label) in 2000, magnum 38 released several tracks on shitkatapult and eventually his first ep "revolver tracks", a thriller kryptofunk record which basically is a perfect soundtrack for a dark crime story that yet has to be written.
now, after months of losing himself in experimentalism and in reaktor patches, after taking journeys into minimal house and nerdy abstract tracks oliver greschke aka magnum 38 is ready to rock his new homebase, berlin, and the rest of the world as well. the new magnum 38 sound is characterized by a broader accesibility and the integration of clever samples, at the moment magnum 38's favorite source of quoting is his old, controversial love, rock'n'roll. you can still sit there and be baffled by that ill sound magnum 38 generates, but now you can also dance.
